When this species popped up as this week's bird, I knew immediately which photo I wanted.

Happy Easter, Whatbirders! After two days watching NASCAR races at Rockingham NC, I'm ready for migration to get into high gear. Hopefully we'll be seeing these two species soon:
Summer Tanager
Lazuli Bunting
The guideline is only one photo per species per week, please. On those occasions when I name more than one species, you're welcome to post one photo of each species. Details and stories behind the photos are encouraged!

Why I installed this fountain. I probably should have cropped this a little wider.
Incidentally, did you know you can search Macaulay with banding codes?

Closest I ever got to a decent picture of a bird. It's actually a still frame from a video. I was sneaking up behind it at about 15 yards, with weeds in between us when it turned around around and walked downstream, passing within 5 yards of me.

In Ocean City, NJ there's a Visitors Center located on the side of a bridge so it is elevated above the bay. Right next to it is a rookery & you can get amazing , closeup views by looking down from the parking area at all of the birds nesting there. They include both Night Herons, three Ibis species, Great Egret, Little Blue Heron & occasionally Tri-colored Heron.

This was my lifer Swainson's Hawk which I drove 3 hours to see in Northumberland, Pennsylvania. I've since seen another in Cape May but those are the only two so far.

I have eleven photos of YCNH from five sightings over three states. Oddly, only one is an an adult, and it isn't the one I selected. I have two that are higher rated than this but I like the angle of one better.

I thought I'd have a lot of these because I see them every year on the Christmas Bird Count in El Petén, but I had to dig to find one! We pretty much always see immatures; I don't know if I've ever seen an adult! The first time I saw one I thought, now I understand how birds are evolved from dinosaurs...

Good morning, Whatbirders! I think today's randomly selected bird is common enough that we'll go with one species this week.
Orange-crowned Warbler
