Red-breasted Merganser ? Female?

Post by loonswan »

Hi, seen 5/16 in Minnesota, Maple Plain area. The eye marking looked like less dark than I see in photos while trying to ID it,I've not seen one before.
Thanks!

Definitely a Red-breasted. The bill is all wrong for common.

Agree with Red-breasted Merganser, adult female (too early for male in non-breeding plumage and field markings wrong).

Nice photos.
