Oops, didn't get the correct thing pasted.
No the can't, they usually don't start spitting until around years old 2. They can at about 1 year but I rarely see it before that.

We used to have 2 llamas, Chico and Rusty, who were intended to aid my father in his endeavors to take his 8 kids down to an infant backpacking. Mostly they spent a lazy life hanging with the cows. They were both the biggest help and the worst nightmare ever. I have plenty of now fond memories of eventually leaving them tied to a tree for the night and hauling their load on our own backs after they got spooky at dusk in the middle of a steep trail several miles from anywhere, laid down, and refused to budge an inch. They can be more stubborn than a burro! Even rolling them onto their backs was no incentive to get up. As soon as we were big enough to carry a few pounds of our own gear they got put out to pasture to retire and eventually died of old age.
