Trimming a piece of leaf to take to the nest, they do this regularly.

Lockwood Folly River, a tidal estuary, Brunswick County, southern coastal NC. https://ebird.org/checklist/S110280025
The few Violet-green photos I have are truly mediocre, strictly for documentation purposes only.
I wasn't enthused about most of my PUMA photos. This isn't a bad shot (hey, it's in focus; that's saying a lot for my photos) but the perch just dominates the image and obscures two of the birds. But they're here for the summer so it's an excuse to take more!

Re: Photo Species of the Week
I love it when we get photos that were taken during the species' week!
The random selector picked a far-North passerine this morning. To balance that out, let's toss in a widespread plover.
Redpoll*
Killdeer
* If you have photos of each of the formerly separate Common and Hoary species, they were lumped into a single species in 2024. By current taxonomy, they're all one species now. Please post only one Redpoll photo.
The guideline is only one photo per species per week, please. On those occasions when I name more than one species, you're welcome to post one photo of each species. Details and stories behind the photos are encouraged!

Re: Photo Species of the Week
It's been a while since I've been able to find photos for the Weekly Species, but I found photos for both species this week.

Re: Photo Species of the Week
Lexington County, central SC. October 2019.
I've lived in NC for just over two years. While picking a this photo, I noticed I all of my Killdeer shots are from SC, mostly from two patches. This is despite having easy access to them near a grocery store I visit every few days. I should give them a little more attention.
Anyway, like most of my Killdeer photos, this bird was at a farm pond adjacent to my old SC neighborhood. I learned a lot about the species from the ones that hung out there.

Re: Photo Species of the Week
Good morning, Whatbirders, and I hope everyone is ready for summer. Spare a moment to remember those who died for our freedom, please.
The random generator came up with a western bird. To balance that, I took inspiration from Kevin's reply to Sbruenjes in the Bird ID forum.
Green-tailed Towhee
Yellow-billed Cuckoo
