Re: Zebra bird ?
I'll go along with a game bird. Location and length of feathers might help.

Re: Zebra bird ?
Yes turkey. I would highly recommend "Bird Feathers" from S. David Scott and Casey McFarland. It's undoubtedly been my most used book other than Sibleys North A.
Also the feather atlas is an excellent resource, and has more plates of each species than the Bird Feathers book but trying to navigate the Feathers Atlas is very difficult when you don't know what species the bird probably is in the first place.

Re: Zebra bird ?
Thanks all. It was in a hay field behind a house here in S Washington. They were maybe 10-12" + long. Don't think I've ever seen turkeys in the 2 or 3 counties around here but they are definitely found not too much farther than that. Suspect maybe this was simply a hunter leaving the offal for the coyotes and Vultures to enjoy.

Maybe I should deconstruct this swallow nest post season and see how many I can figure out.
