Help with a woodpecker

Need help identifying a bird? Please post your question here and if possible include a photo. Also let us know where and when you saw the bird. Other things that help are listing any field marks that stood out, behavioral information like how it walked, hopped or flew. This Forum is just for North American birds.

Help with a woodpecker

Post by MtnAg08 »

Saw this one on a walk this evening in Avon, CO. I've seen a bunch of Hairy, Downy and Red-Naped Sapsuckers this summer but this one doesn't seem to quite match any of those. Knowing me, it's probably just an immature/female of one of those three. Can't see it in the photos but it looked like there was a hint of yellow on the breast/belly. Hoping somebody is familiar with it. Thanks!

While not a bird, I am including a bonus picture of the beaver I saw that was having dinner under the tree I saw the woodpecker.
